Peace in the valley is more expensive than peace on the mountaintop.
Before God takes you out of the valley… pray to be given a peace to endure.
When we walk through the valley and still lift our worship as an offering to God, saying, “No, I know that He is good”, it is a precious expression of trust in God’s faithfulness that presents open hands to receive His peace that passes understanding.
“In order to receive the peace that passes understanding I have to give up my right to understand.” — Bill Johnson, Bethel Redding
Peace in the valley is more expensive than peace on the mountaintop. Cherish it. Treasure it. Hide it in your heart. Don’t let it go. And let it change you, working in your heart, so that when you do reach the mountaintop, it won’t be a cheap and brittle peace, but a solid wisdom and recognition of Who God is as Jireh.
Cherish the table God sets before you in the presence of your enemies.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:4-6 ESV)
At one point I was severely struggling financially, and although God’s provision is about so much more than solely material possessions, I really needed to have the money to buy a car, to pay for college, etc.
The church I attend, RiverStone Church, started a series on giving, so I went to the altar to receive prayer for God’s provision. What happened next was this. The Lord spoke to my heart and said:
“sometimes My provision means reminding you that I am enough for you.”
And I was given a peace during that time before any of my circumstances changed. It wasn’t a cheap peace based on temporary happiness. It was a trust that God is faithful to bring me through to the other side. So I said, I don’t see any change now but I trust You, God.
Then I was anonymously given $500, enough to pay for tuition that month and still be saving.
Then the missionary Tammy Ma prayed over me that I would receive a car in a way that glorified God. Within the next few weeks I was given a car by some friends who had prayed and felt that the Lord was instructing them to give me their car.
And the peace I had been given before that, the faith that I would see the goodness of God in the land of the living, was strengthened, now given a testimony as well, where I can confidently say
“I know the Lord will provide.”
If you are currently in the valley, First pray for peace.
Pray for faithful endurance to the end.
Saying, I know God will move mountains.
And until He does I know He is walking beside me, carrying me through, defending me ferociously.
Peace in the valley is more expensive than peace on the mountaintop.
in Christ
